Best Southeastern Seafood Shacks

No Frills-Just Delicious

Part 3 of 3

On the last leg of our journey south to find the best seafood around, we found some great stops in South Carolina and Georgia. If you are fortunate enough to live in these areas, then you may have heard of the great spots we uncovered. Or, if you are adventurous enough to take a road trip tracking down the hot seafood spots, then you must check these out.

Rockefeller’s Raw Bar, Myrtle Beach, SC
This great little spot in South Myrtle Beach looks like a surfer’s paradise inside, with a center bar shaped like a surfboard. Their “infamous” steam kettles are worth the trips alone. One of the delectable choices is a full half pound of shrimp, steamed in your choice of Old Bay and beer, wine and garlic, marinara, or Fra Diavlo. Truly a variety of flavor profiles that will satisfy everyone.

Big Tuna Raw Bar, Old Fish House Georgetown, SC
Located on the waterfront overlooking the Sampit River, Big Tuna is where all the locals hang out. Whether it”s sipping a few drinks at the bar or dining on the deck, you will always be able to catch up on the local gossip. The seafood is the freshest around, frequently caught and brought in by the owner, Bucky. Serving the coldest beer in town and mean Oyster Po’ Boy, it is a must stop on our trip south.

Bowen’s Island Restaurant, Charleston, SC
In the heart of South Carolina’s lowlands, with Spanish moss hanging off the trees, you will find Bowen’s Island Restaurant. Eat in or outside overlooking the marshy coast, picking a cozy graffiti covered picnic table. Order at the counter, or go downstairs to
gorge yourself on oysters in a warehouse like room where the cooks just spend all day steaming these delicious little bivalves all day and night. Rustic, low land feel and fresh, tasty oysters make this place one to check out.

Iguana’s Seafood Restaurant, St. Simon’s Island, GA
Whether you love your shrimp blackened, broiled or fried, nothing beats wild Georgia shrimp, and Igunana’s knows exactly how to serve up these fresh little shellfish. Plenty of seating indoors or on the covered patio with views of historic Piers Village, this place has awards to back up their claim on the best, freshest shrimp around.
