How To Get There
Block Island is one of the best vacation spots in Rhode Island. It can be reached by the ferry. By making a 25-minute drive from Newport Rhode Island to Point Judith, a ferry will take you to Crescent Beach in about an hour.
A high speed ship can take you there in half the time or you can catch the high-speed boat from New London, Ct. but it costs more than the traditional ferry. You can even reach the island by plane.
For accommodations,e’ you can book a room at the Payne’s Harbor View Inn. There are 10 rooms at the inn and they provide stunning views of the ocean. Another option is Hotel Manisses which also has a working farm. The interesting thing about this place is that each room has been named after a local shipwreck.
As far as activities on Block Island are concerned, you can rent a bike (or bring your own) to explore two lighthouses on the island, and especially the nature conservancy called Mohegan Bluffs. There are several open spaces for hiking as well, and you will find wooden stairs to help you up and down the stone walls.
For entertainment, you can head to the Empire Theatre. There are several shops as well, including a Farmer’s Market.
Dining options at the island include Winfield’s and Rebecca’s that offer fresh seafood. Lobsters and fish are caught from boats a few blocks from the restaurants; that’s how fresh it is.
The best time to visit the Island is May till June. But if you want to avoid the crowd and also get the best deals on accommodation, September to October proves the best season.
