If you have a boat, you should have boating etiquette. It’s that simple. Check out these ten rules that let people admire you for being a well-mannered boater.
- When you’re loading or fueling up, move your boat away from the loading float or fueling dock right after you’re done. Unless the dock master permits you, don’t linger on once your time limit is up.
- Enter the marina slowly. Keep your neighbors happy by not disturbing them with your entry.
- Use your head when using the head! “It” should go into the holding tank, not overboard!
- Store all hoses, cords and lines neatly instead of having them spread across the dock which is a tripping hazard, particularly during the night.
- Store the gear off the dock as that’s a tripping hazard as well. Moreover, the gear is an obstruction for people trying to move their supplies, equipment etc. across the dock.
- Try to keep your safe from extending out over the dock as it is a hazard especially with a protruding anchor. Learn how to use spring lines.
- Don’t leave garbage or food on the dock or in the cockpit as it attracts rodents, roaches, fl
- Keep it down. Your neighbors probably won’t appreciate your loud stereo or your loud generator.
- When getting off the boat for a while, turn off the electronic equipment. No one wants to hear the squealing of the VHF radio.
