The Florida Keys
Best Fishing on the East Coast
The crystal clear, blue-green waters of the Florida Keys sparkle at sunrise and sunset. Within these waters hold some of the most spectacular fish just itching to nibble on your bait. The Keys are home one of the most diverse ecosytems in the world. From sand bars to flats to coral reefs, all types of water dwellers are attracted to the area, which means great fishing for you!
You can find at least three different types of snapper, including red snapper fishing of the keys. There are blackfin tuna aplenty and no deep sea trip would be complete without hooking the acrobatic sailfish, known for the deep shimmering blue scales and top fin, noted when it leaps out of the water in a good fight. Every angler, rookie or veteran, should plan to visit the Keys for an epic fishing adventure.
Different times of the year will bring different species to the area. Lucky for the year round anglers, the redfish are around all twelve months. In the winter months, head towards the gulf and find kingfish (king mackerel) in the reefs. Springtime is is ideal if your interested in some serious sport fishing for hammerhead or bull and spinner sharks.
As the water inches towards 80 degrees in June, tarpon is the fish of the day. Technically they are around all year but they are easier to find and hook in the warmer months. Thanks to the Gulf Coast stream bringing all kinds of bait fish in May, June and July, the birds flock to the waves which means dolphin fish are not far behind. Grilled mahi mahi anyone?
No matter your level of expertise or what fish tickles your fancy, there is something for everyone in the Keys. Plan your next vacation to Islamorada or Key West and have the time of your life on the jeweled warm waters of the Florida Keys.
