Ocean or Intercoastal Waterway
Great on Both Sides
Clearwater Beach
I grew up in Clearwater, riding my bike to Clearwater Beach – having lunch at Palm Pavilion and checking out the fishing at Pier 60. It was then and is now an amazingly gorgeous beach. Don’t take my word for it alone – last year it was voted Florida’s best beach town. It seems to always be on someone’s list of best beaches.
It has gorgeous white powder sand. Is a great walking beach – you can walk for miles in either direction – feet splashing in the water along the way. It is not uncommon to see Dolphin out in the Gulf, and of course many boats cruising out there as well. Shells are plentiful and in the past few years the city of Clearwater has completely renovated the ‘commercial’ side of things. All along the beach front are sidewalks interspersed with showers and small shops with restrooms.
The water is warm – it is basically the same temperature year-round. I think it is about 72 degrees. There are no waves that surfers can use, but the tide seems always on the move and brings in treasures along with little tidal pools full of minnows and the occasional actual fish. Swimming out to sandbars is easy and fun – there are multiple sandbars so you can swim out to one, walk around and check things out – then swim out to another. You can be pretty far out and still be in knee deep water, yet travel through water over your head to get there. It is wonderful. Stay tuned for part two of Clearwater Beach….
See you on the Beaches
