Hobie Mirage Drive

Use Your Feet to Propel Yourself Through the Water

Last year, Hobie launched the innovative Eclipse pedal board. Hobie perhaps has attempted to merge standup paddleboarding with a Stairmaster.

The Eclipse Pedal Board feature Hobie’s patented Mirage Drive, which was introduced by the manufacturer back in 1997. This was when pedal-powered kayaking took off and foot propulsion became a thing.

Now the MirageDrive pedal system comes to peddle boards. So you no longer have to paddle your board through the water. Instead, you only need to step up and down on the pedals in the floor of the Eclipse to get moving.

A major benefit, of course, is for people who want to paddleboard but don’t have a hard time balancing themselves. The Mirage Eclipse includes handlebars which make movement in the water easier. Another notable benefit is that pedal boards will help you avoid blistered hands and fatigued arms that are inevitable after hours of paddleboarding. And of course you are getting all the other advantages of not having to paddle your board, especially in rough waters.

All in all, this is a great product for those who want to get started with water sports and especially those who find it hard to balance their paddleboards. This is also a great way to get some exercise since you are practically cycling on water.

Currently, this is unlike anything on the market. The only catch is that the Mirage Eclipse comes at $2500 a pop, so you can only embrace this new technology if you have the extra dough. If you want to go for the 12-foot model, be prepared to dish out an extra $200. For the same price, you can get Hobie’s Mirage-powered kayaks as well, so make your choice.
