Lobster in the Rough

As you pull into the parking lot, you will note there is nothing fancy about Abbott’s Lobster in the Rough. What you will immediately realize by the number of people waiting to try the offerings of this quintessential seaside lobster shack is that it IS the place to get great lobster at an affordable price.

Since their opening in 1947, people have been flocking here to dine on the docks overlooking the Atlantic. Salty, sweet ocean air coupled with lobster, clams and chowder, you will think you’ve found heaven. Writers, reporters and critics from around the world have stopped here to take it all in and let the world know exactly where to stop when traveling through Connecticut.

Abbott’s is only open 7 days a week from Memorial Day to Labor Day and on weekends from the first weekend in May through Columbus Day in October. Your window of opportunity to visit is wide so be sure to take advantage of it in the summer months to fully enjoy the Abbott’s experience. While they have a full line of soft drinks available for purchase, you are free to bring your own beer and wine to enjoy with your clam bake.

There is something for every seafood lover as well as kids at Abbotts. Begin with chowder or crab cakes and move on to steamed clams or mussels. Don’t feel like fighting with a whole lobster? Try the lobster roll which Zagat’s raves about, doused in melted butter and served on a split top, toasted hot dog bun.

Make sure you save room for dessert! Our favorite is the Cracker Jack Caramel Sundae which is a divine combination of vanilla ice cream, real cracker jacks and salted caramel. It tastes as delicious as it sounds.

From the cozy, seaside atmosphere to the phenomenally fresh seafood and the family friendly prices, put Abbott’s on your list as a must stop place to go for your summer vacation.
