Sights, Seafood, and Sea
The Virgin Island are home to one of the best vacation spots in the Caribbean Islands. Located about 40 miles east of Puerto Rico, the virgin islands are comprised of three different island including Saint Croix, Saint John and Saint Thomas. Besides being surrounded by tropical water and beaches, the Virgin Islands have some of the best seafood spots and endless amount of things to see and do.
If you are looking for seafood, the Virgin Islands are no stranger to some of the best local seafood spots. There are several types of fish species that are served locally including the reef fish such as:
- Pot fish which is usually boiled, fried or grilled served as a whole fish including the head.
- Snapper, yellowtail, red hind among others that are commonly served in the casual seafood eateries in the Virgin Islands.
- Other fish species, such as swordfish, mahimahi, tuna, and grouper are usually served in more upscale seafood restaurants
- One particular type of food called conch fritters is very popular and often served with seafood. These are fried morsels of conch meat and batter, similar to hushpuppies.
In addition to the seafood and dining, the US Virgin Islands has plenty of things to do and see. First, it is home to some of the best beaches per its location in the Caribbean Sea. Trunk Bay, located on the Island of Saint John is a mecca of some oMonth byf the prettiest beaches with the usual snorkeling and scuba diving.
It is also in close proximity to the Virgin Islands National Park. There is plenty of shopping such as Main Street of the Island of Saint Thomas, or other things for tourists to do including visiting the rum distilleries such as the Cruzan Rum distillery.
