Matanuck Oyster Bar

Sustainable Aquaculture

A friend of mine told me about this restaurant in Rhode Island. He did not eat there because it was absolutely mobbed. I was intrigued so, I went to the website. Once there, I was really take by their video and the passion of the owner. He was passionate and humble. I really enjoyed this story and ask that you watch the video below

If you want the freshest local product in Rhode Island, Matanuck Oyster Bar is a must try for every foodie looking for a meal that will wow you from beginning to end. Owner Perry Raso has been digging for oysters in Rhode Island from a young age. He discovered his love for the Atlantic Ocean save trying to pursue a medical degree in Colorado. Returning to Rhode Island, he went on to earn his bachelors and masters degrees from URI in aquaculture and fisheries technology. During his studies, he won a scholarship to study in Africa and from there he developed his passion for using aquaculture to become sustainable food source.
In 2002 he founded Matanuck Oyster farm. When he expanded from one acre to seven he started the Matanuck Oyster Bar, where he put his belief of ‘pond to table’ into action. Over the years it has expanded that belief to include organic farms and grass-fed beef.

Named one of the twenty-one best seafood restaurants in America by Timeout, Matanuck Oyster Bar is definitely worth your trip. With their fresh food mostly produced from the land and pond around them this restaurant has many tempting range of options for every eater.

From the Raw Bar menu their Oyster Sampler will not disappoint with an assortment of twelve mouthwatering, fresh oysters. For those not willing to choose, they do offer the clear Rhode Island Clam Chowder and creamy New England Clam Chowder as well-priced starters or entrees.

It is okay to feel torn looking at the list of their unique and flavor packed entrée descriptions. You don’t have to feel bad going to a seafood restaurant and getting their All Natural Choice Ribeye Steak you can also add shrimp or scallops to your meal. With choices of vegan Ratatouille Ravioli, Jambalaya, Boiled Lobsters to sandwiches such as the Oyster Po Boy, your meal will have you planning your next trip back to this epicurean delight.

The good news is the Matanuck Oyster Bar serves this mouth watering food year round and always fresh. However, if you are going ‘on season’ be sure to take advantage of their new online reservations tool. The parking is valet only, so make your experience an extra special event with a tour of their farm land. Depending on your sea legs you can take the pond or land tour. With a concept “simple food, fairly priced, fresh products, and making sure everyone leaves happy” this is a place everyone wants to become a regular.
