Tips for Drag Netting Fish

Recipe for Frying Them

Save money on bait and seafood; catch your own minnows for luring in bass, bluegill, or trout. Here’s a helpful tip on how to use nets to catch your minnows, and if you want to have them yourself, there’s a recipe for frying them at the end!

To start off, you need to get yourself a minnow seine. This allows you to grab many minnows without waiting all day or night. When you go to your fishing supplies stores, you’ll find several brands marketing “minnow seines”. Or you can order online to save time and money.

As far as size is concerned, smaller nets are best if you’re fishing in creeks. Once you have the seine, the next step is preparation, and it requires some work.

What you need are two wooden boards about four feet tall each. Take a saw and cut a sharp angle at the bottom of both boards. Tie or staple the net to each end of both boards. Now you’re ready to catch some minnows.

Find an area in the water with natural objects like rocks, and stick the boards inside using the sharp edges. Wait for the minnows to arrive, but keep hold of the net to stabilize it.

After 10 minutes or so, take out the seine and bring the bottom of the net up and hold it together with the top. You should have an abundant supply, ready to be fried! Here’s how you do it:

  • Take a large skillet and fill about an inch of cooking oil
  • Place on medium-high heat
  • Drop the minnows into the hot oil, and fry until golden
  • Remove the fried minnows with a metal spoon that is slotted, and lay them on paper towels to get rid of extra oil

That’s about it!
