Wide Variety of Fish and Fishing Techniques

With a myriad of options ranging from Inshore fishing to Fly fishing….Georgia’s Golden Isles – made up of St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island, Cumberland Island, Sea Island, Little St. Simons Island, and Brunswick Georgia have much to offer!

The inshore fishing covers flats and backwater creeks with all kinds of good catch: black drum, flounder, redfish and trout to name a few. You can fish onseven month for your own or choose a fishing trip/group to go with…depending on your patience (ok you fish so you must have a reasonable amount of patience!) and your available fishing time. Clearly, those who know these waters will know their inhabitants best and can guide you. On the other hand, sometimes discovering the hidey-hole of fish is a big part of the fun.

Big Fish

If you prefer to be out on the water, in a boat, again there are great options you can stay within about 5 miles of the shore and find tarpon, sharks, and cobia and more. If you want to fish reefs, you need to go out to the deep waters and there are charters that will take you up to 50 miles out. On these charters you can catch amber jack, grouper, king mackerel, sharks, wahoo and so much more.

Within 5 miles is good fun fishing for the average person in my opinion. Getting OUT to the 5-50 mile range takes a while and is for the hardier fisher.

Tarpon

Then there is fly fishing – loads of the perfect setting: shallow flats and flooded marsh where you can fly fish for redfish year round. There are fish you can snag at different times of the year – sharks, tarpon Cobia and more. Again – finding a good guide is very helpful – unless you are an experienced fly fisher and can sight your own fish.

There are Marina’s to fish off of course throughout the area and if you aren’t up for fishing – you can certainly find the delicious fresh seafood at local restaurants.
Whatever your preference – the Golden Isles has good options for fishing, or simply eating delicious fish.
