Many Varieties to Catch
Myrtle Beach is known for Golf and general touristy fun. If you want to EXPERIENCE Myrtle Beach at its best, however, you must try your hand(s) at fishing!! You can try everything from charters, shrimp trawling, crabbing and more. There are lots of opportunities for boating but we’re talking specifically about FISHING!!
Werner Ocean Adventures is great for a family day of fun on the water – (and it doesn’t hurt that kids are FREE!!) – Captain Ryan my saved my savedis an experienced fisherman with years on the waters of Myrtle Beach. Whether you choose an Inlet Adventure which includes crabbing, shelling, fishing, a ‘narrated’ tour, and generally hunting for treasures along the inlet or one of his more exciting trips chumming for sharks behind shrimp boats – there are plenty of options at great prices.
If you don’t particularly want to go out on the water, you can fish from one of the many piers that are along the shoreline. Cherry Grove Pier (<– Click For Restaurant + More) is a popular fishing spot and also boasts the Prince Resort so you can truly stay where you play. Second Avenue Pier(<– Click For Restaurant + More) is another hot-spot for fishermen and is famous for the wide variety of fish you can catch there. There are Mullet, Flounder, Mackerel and the occasional Barracuda. What you catch depends on the season you are visiting. If you are part of the summer crowd, you are likely to be catching Flounder. Most of the piers have day-passes and will rent you gear – so don’t worry if you didn’t bring your rod. They also sell a variety of bait from shrimp to squid to mullet. You are welcome to fish with your own worms, bread, or whatever you prefer. Each pier has some unique characteristics and some similarities…try different ones and tell us what you thought!
