Home Dining Room My wife and I visited the Home Restaurant in the center of Branford, Connecticut last night. We have been there a couple of times for lunch. Each time that we have visited, the experience was above and beyond from the servers to the owner. Everyone is very attentive and in a good mood. I have found that to be kind of rare right now. Not here.

We went for dinner last night and I wanted to order one of my most favorite dishes. Shrimp and Grits. I was a bit taken back by the price. Because everything has been excellent in my previous visits, I thought that there might be a positive surprise. There was.

We started our dinner with an appetizer, fried cauliflower. Sounds pretty basic, but we went for it anyway. Very tender, very crispy and quite delicious. Recommended. You would be surprised how many places just can’t fry properly. Was oil used to fry the item. It was not even apparent. Quite delicious was this appetizer. What is supposed to come to the table when you sit down is an order of Hummus and Pita Chips instead of bread. Ours did not arrive until our appetizer did. By itself, it was delicious but, we actually took pieces of the fried cauliflower and dipped them into the hummus. Nobody told us to do that, we just did and it was incredible. Surprisingly, tasty. We told the owner then he smiled. Shrimp and Grits

It was time for my entrĂ©e. I was going to be rather critical because of the price and my very high expectations. The meal was delivered and I was trying to keep an open mind. “It was green.”. Why? The grits contained scallions whose stems are green. The grits also contained cheddar cheese, which made them taste so comforting. The shrimp were extremely tender. That means that they were prepared so properly. They were glazed with chipotle and bourbon, which gave a great taste, spicy and sweet. There was a small baby kale and tomato salad placed on top. Below that salad was a surprise (even though it was in the description). That surprise was browned Andouille Sausage. The flavor just exploded in my mouth. This is a spicy sausage and I was surprised that it was that good. The entire dish delivered going away. When you use fresh, quality ingredients and have a talented chef, something great is going to happen. It did.

We will be returning to Home Restaurant as often as possible.

*I just broke for lunch and ate my leftovers from dinner last night. Even better the next day.
