How to Prepare and Sear Sea Scallops at Home

Preparing foods and searing scallops at home is easy! You can have fresh seared scallops at home that are just as delicious as those you enjoy at your favorite seafood restaurant at a fraction of the cost.

Ingredients:

  • 3 large scallops per person
  • a tablespoon olive oil
  • fresh dill to top
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • ledge of lemon per person

Here are the steps:

  1. Choose fresh sea scallops at a trusted seafood source. I like to get the “colossal” size. You can read how to select fresh scallops here. Note – Scallops are very rich. Therefore, a typical serving is 3 large scallops per prson.
  2. Have all the ingredient out and ready. Seared scallops cook quickly. You don’t want to be racing around the kitchen grabbing ingredients as you need them.
  3. Rinse and pat dry each scallop. Make sure they are dry, or they won’t brown properly.
  4. Turn on a stove top burner to medium high.
  5. Coat a skillet with a tablespoon of olive oil. You can substitute butter. However, olive oil can withstand a higher temperature better than butter. It’s easy to burn butter. I recommend the olive oil.
  6. Once the pan has heated, place each scallop on it. They shouldn’t stick if t go to the he pan is preheated.
  7. Cook each scallop for three minutes per side (for the colossal size, adjust if yours are smaller). You only need to flip each scallop once.
  8. You know they are ready when they are completely opaque. Raw scallops are slightly translucent.
  9. Be sure not to overcook the scallops. It’s easy to do.
  10. Serve scallops with a wedge of lemon, top with fresh dill and offer salt and pepper to taste

It’s really that easy. Enjoy!
