KC’s Fish and Chips, Douglas, Ireland

A Family Tradition

Best Tasting Fish and Chips in Douglas, Ireland

KC’s Fish and Chips is the name of three generations of the same family offering traditional Fish & Chips from what was once a small cottage in a country village. Consumers who appreciate a traditional seafood menu flock to KC’s with fierce loyalty (and, at peak times, long lines). It’s right next to the popular Douglas Village Farmer’s Market, which takes place every Saturday morning.

KC & Son & Sons, founded in 1958, is among Cork City’s oldest takeaways. But it is not the oldest. Jackie Lennox has been in business for seven years before this establishment. It has always had a small team averaging eight to ten employees. Currently, the restaurant is led by senior partner Wes Crawford. He is the “Son” in KC and Son and began working at the restaurant  in his teens after the passing of his father.

According to online reviews, this restaurant is highly rated for its fish and chips, with customers often commenting on the high quality of the food and the generous portion sizes. Some customers also mention that the restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff.

Since 1958, it has expanded its comprehensive menu. These include Pitiful Poultry, King Creole, and classics like the meat patty. The patty originated in 1960 and is now a supermarket staple.

The business has survived fire, flood, and pestilence in the same tiny premises for over half a century. It’s size spreads over the width of a living room.

A decade ago, KC’s was internally rebuilt after flooding submerged the center of the city. The restaurant also survived the pandemic by  building up an exceptional delivery business. It also has an online presence and sells branded merchandise such as beanies and service aprons.

If you’re in the area, you might want to give KC’s a try and see for yourself how good it is-
