History of a Local Joint
If you’re visiting Branford, Connecticut and you ask the locals where you can possibly have a great drink and great food, they will likely point you to Lenny’s Indian Head Inn – a shoreline favorite for four decades. But truth be told, the place’s origins started in 1939 and from then, had an interesting history.
The Story of Lenny’s
The establishment was originally created by Thomas J. and his wife, Katherine Fitzgerald. They opened the
tavern and small restaurant during that time across the street from where the current Lenny’s is propped. Eventually, they moved to the current location – probably aiming to expand their business.
It wasn’t until 1968 that Leonard and Theresa Conlin – known as Lenny and Tee – brought the place and made it into the2 infamous Lenny’s Indian Head Inn. When the state lowered the drinking age to 18, the business began
to flourish. But it became a restaurant when the legal drinking age was brought back to 21.
Seafood Haven
From then on, they would serve one of the best seafood meals in town. From a site where constant brawls happened, Lenny’s Indian Head Inn had become a friendly and cozy family restaurant where everyone can enjoy lobster dinners and a good band.
They created one of the best New England Clam Chowders. There’s also an abundance of clams and oysters on half-shell. Fried seafood is a classic and they have various choices to choose from.
Winter Has Arrived
While most seafood restaurants find themselves struggling a little during winter, Lenny’s continues to flourish. In fact, they may be flourishing more than ever.
The seafood remains the same, reminiscent of the summer days. There’s the beer that warms you from the inside and a choice of soups for warmth. And it’s always jampacked – the body heat of each and every merry fellow giving warmth in a cold winter night.
