Block Island is a popular tourist destination located 12 miles south the coast of Rhode Island. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, this charming island has so many things to offer for every kind of traveler. A new adventure waits for every visitor who gets to explore the island’s breathtaking landscapes and pristine beaches.

To get there, one can take a ferry from Point Judith in Rhode Island, New London in Connecticut or Long Island in New York. Daily flights are also available from Westerly, RI. If you are planning a trip to this scenic island, make sure you include the following attractions to your itinerary.

Charlestown Beach

Block Island is a prime area for fishing. There are so many locations to choose from but Charlestown Beach is a popular choice. You can fish from the shore or rent a boat. The sunset in the area is also spectacular.

Mohegan Bluffs
Located on the south side of the island, the Mohegan Bluffs towers at 200 feet overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Climbing up can be quite challenging but these cliffs provide a spectacular view of the island’s southern coast.

Great Salt Pond
The Great Salt Pond is located in the western part of Block Island. It is a beautiful place to visit if you want to do some recreational boating. The area is also great for fishing where you can catch striped bass, white perch and shad.

1661 Farm and Gardens
If you’re traveling with kids, a visit to the 1661 Farm and Gardens is a must. This small farm is home to several domestic and even exotic animals like emus, donkeys, camels, goats and swans, to name a few.

North Lighthouse
Located in Sandy Point at the northern side of the Island, the lighthouse is a pretty sight to see. To explore the area, you can ride a car or take a bike then hike up to the lighthouse. It is actually the fourth lighthouse built in the area as the first three gave way to the sea because of erosion.
