Part 1 of 2

Head on to these fishing spots in Newburyport MA

Ask anyone who’s tried fishing before, and they’ll all tell you that fishing is all about patience – a test of your patience to be exact. And there’s no bigger test than waiting for your favorite species of fish to bite.

But, honestly, who can really wait to reel in a big catch on your first cast? So cut your waiting time in half and check out this list of fishing spots in Newburyport MA, where your next trophy is, well, patiently waiting.

Plum Island Point

Located near the south side of the New Hampshire border, Plum Island Point or simply The Point as locals call it, is a seven mile stretch of beach and a choice spot if you prefer fishing from the shoreline.

You’re sure to easily catch a striped bass angler, which is abundant in the area, around springtime when they’re migrating. Just keep in mind that according to new regulations, you can only keep them if they’re 28-inches longer.

Merrimack River

There’s no such thing as a bad fishing day at the Merrimack River. So, if you’re coming disco empty at Plum Island Point, just make your way down the mouth of the Merrimack River to experience its famed “fish-on-every-cast” status.

Depending on your experience along with the condition of the current, casting a line along the jetty, especially the spot where it empties into the Atlantic Ocean, guarantees you a bite from Smallmouth bass, American shad, and even giant carps.

Joppa Flats

Come June and you’ll find yourself in a massive crowd of fly-fishers, taking advantage of the swarm of baitfish that comes with the tides which lure in the stripers.

So if you want to avoid the crowd, night fishing using a kayak is also an option. Eels are a sure catch at this hour, but from spring to early summer Bluefish and Alewife also start to become common.

And these are only the most well-. There are far more fishing spots in Newburyport MA just waiting to be discovered. So what are you waiting for?
