The 5 Seafood Giants In North America

Despite the problems caused by trade tensions and the falling prices of some seafood, the list of top seafood suppliers in 2018 is practically the same as that in 2017. This shows that many of the largest seafood companies in North America managed to overcome the hurdles of the previous year.

These are the 5 seafood giants of 2018 according to SeafoodSource:

  2. Maruha Nichiro Corp., based in Tokyo, Japan, is the biggest seafood company in the world. The corporation operates globally and owns numerous regional subsidiaries, including the Washington-based Peter Pan Seafoods, Premier Pacific Seafoods, and Trans-Ocean Products.

    In 2017, the company had a total sales of $999.1 million.

  3. High Liner Foods
  4. In 2017, This toiner Foods sold more than 290 million pounds of seafood to restaurants and institutions. The Canadian company, which built its business on breaded and battered fish products, serves markets in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

  5. Tri Marine International
  6. One of the largest tuna suppliers in the world, US-based Tri Marine International owns the brands Choice Landing, Soltuna, and Ocean Naturals. Tri Marine operates tuna fishing vessels and has tuna processing plants in Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, and the Solomon Islands.

    In 2017, Tri Marine International had a sales total of $1billion.

  7. Thai Union North America
  8. Thai Union North America is a Thailand-based seafood supplier that operates around the world. The company supplies tuna, salmon, mackerel, shrimp, and even pet food.

    Thai Union’s brand portfolio includes Chicken of the Sea and US Pet Nutrition in the United States, Fisho and Bellotta in Thailand, Parmentier and Petit Navire in France, and Mareblu in Italy.

    Thai Union North America made a total of $1.3 billion in 2017.

  10. With a total sales of $1.37 billion in 2017, Cooke Inc. is once again the top seafood supplier in North America. Through its subsidiary Cooke Aquaculture Inc., the company engages in integrated aquaculture. It also has seafood divisions operating under Icicle Seafoods Inc. and Cooke Seafood USA.
