Northeastern Fishing in Fall

November is Ideal for Fall Fishing in the Northeast

Don’t Hang Up Your Fishing Poles Just Yet!

Fall fishing, especially in the northeast, might just be warming up. So if you haven’t already done so, you better not lock away your poles and boats. If you are willing to withstand a little chill, fall fishing can be a great experience, particularly owing to the fact that most fishing areas are virtually empty at this point.

While lakes and ponds tend to be in good shape even in autumn, the water temperatures can rise above normal for October/November. As the temperature starts to drop, look for decaying vegetation. Towards the end of the month, you should focus on bass fishing around the remaining vegetation.

With any luck, there may be a few days in between with warm and breezy weather, but if not, you can fish in the afternoons when the water is warmer. If you are fishing for crappie, you will find late afternoons a great time for fishing. Later in the month, you will find better fishing towards the middle of the day.

November is also a good time for largemouth fishing in the northeast, but once again, it depends on the weather and the water temperature. Likewise, you should keep the live-lining good during the early part of the month. Once the temperature is cooler, you can head out to the bigger reservoirs and lakes as deeper water will improve your catch volume.

Finally, if you are after smallmouth, you won’t have much luck in the larger streams and the water levels will be high. If you are still going at it, jig-minnow combinations can improve your chances of catching smallies. For better results, you should fish in the bigger lakes and reservoirs.
