Diverse and Beautiful

I was bound to get around to BEACHES! PEI – as an island of course it has a lot of coastline, which means great beaches right? Of course!! The cool thing about this Island is the variety of beaches:
Each beach of PEI has its own personality – you can camp at the Provincial Parks – each with its own beach. Or you can go south and try your hand at clam digging on one of those beaches. If you are a ‘beach crowd’ person – you may enjoy Cavendish or Brackley Beach – they are typically more popular for the sunbathing/socializing crowd. If you want that soft ‘squeaky’ sand – head straight for Basin Head (sorry had to say it) and enjoy the sweet soft stuff!!
Red Sands Shore is possibly one of the most unique the red sand is not the only character piece: there are cliffs to one side and ocean to the other, so you can walk along the shore with your feet in the water or hike in the trails up the cliffs for a little different adventure. Either way, the views are spectacular and worth the trip. Bring a picnic lunch and spend the day from chilly morning to the heat of mid-day then back to chilly (and maybe a little bon fire) in the evening.
Getting there by way of the Confederation Bridge is definitely the way to go. It is one of the longest bridges in the world with amazing views throughout the drive. If you head over to St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church right there in North Carleton – you can get great shots of the bridge and then head over to Gateway Village to shop for treasures and grab a bite to eat.
I’m sure there are books written about the many beaches of PEI – and if not, there should be. Beautiful and full of variety!
