Sarasota’s Siesta Key

Beach Sand like Baby Powder

If you like natural and beautiful beaches, shelling, dining, gorgeous unseemly, unreal blue waters and an overall relaxing vacation, I highly recommend Sarasota, Florida. Sarasota, Florida is a region on the gulf side of Florida. My sister and I planned and took a vacation together there after it was highly recommended to us. We were not disappointed at all! It was one of my favorite vacations ever. Not only did I get to spend some great quality time with my sister, we got to experience some of our favorite things. We were both quite shocked with how much this area has to offer. The following describes highlights of our trip.

Where to start! First, this area has some of the best shelling in the world. I have always loved shelling, and when I discovered that Sarasota is known world-wide as a best locality for collecting seashells, I was so excited. We both were. We spent two days shelling. The array and diversity of shells are amazing. We found dolphin and shark teeth too. It was as if we were placing perfect polished shells into our buckets straight from a shell shop. However, we were not. They came straight out of the water. It was fantastic.

One of the best loved beaches in the world, Siesta Key Beach, is a part of Sarasota. It is a beach that is regularly featured on “Top Beaches in the Word” type television programs. We were told that it felt like baby powder ahead of time, which I needed to see and touch to believe. Well, it does! The sand is exactly like baby powder, and it is bright, bright white (from the high silicon dioxide content). It does not get too hot to walk across ever, and it is a dream to lay and fall asleep on. This is why it’s called “Siesta” key. (Don’t get caught in a windstorm there! The sand is ultra-difficult to rinse off and since it is powder, well, you can imagine.)

Other highlights of our trip included award winning key lime pie (which is saying a lot since we are both complete chocolate people), the best escargot I have ever had from a local French and South African mix restaurant, relaxing outside of our aesthetically pleasing motel suite while being surrounded by tall water birds, hibiscus flowers and cute little lizards. (There was also a friendly cat that I let it, but my sister wouldn’t let me keep her in overnight.)

We also visited a mineral spa. It was the first time we got to do this, and we were both curious about it since mineral spas have healing benefits. That was a lovely, relaxing experience. There were even freshly fallen eucalyptus leaves floating in the water. I kept smearing the bottom mineral contents on my face while trying to explain to my sister that if this stuff was bottled, it would cost a fortune. She didn’t join me and thought I was nuts.

I could go on and on about our trip, but you have some of the highlights. You can take this information and go create a relaxing, fun vacation of your own.

Again, I highly recommend Sarasota. Not only is it a wonderful place to visit and get to know, it is more affordable than most other coastal places in Florida. But! Make sure you have a pair of sunglasses. I don’t wear sunglasses, and both of us where blinded immediately upon entering the hotel from all the wonderful fine white sand.
