Shrimp Mac and Cheese

Coastal Flair To Your Pasta!

Love macaroni and cheese? Who doesn’t! Here’s a recipe that allows you to bring together salad shrimp and your favorite pasta to create a culinary delight that is surprisingly easy to prepare. And the combination is perfect since shrimp is roughly the same size as the elbow macaroni.

What You’ll Need:

  • Saucepan
  • Oval au gratin dish
  • Ingredients (for 4 servings):
  • 1 cup salad shrimp (frozen)
  • ½ elbow macaroni
  • 2 tbsp cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • ½ cup cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 1 tbsp butter (unsalted)
  • 1 tbsp flour (all-purpose)
  • ¾ cup milk (1%)
  • 1½ tbsp sour cream
  • ½ tsp Cajun seasoning

Method:

  • Start by preheating your oven to 350F.
  • Pour some water into a saucepan, about five cups. Place over high heat, cover the saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • Add macaroni, and boil for about 8 minutes or until it is tender but not too soft.
  • As the macaroni boils, take another saucepan to melt butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in the flour to create a smooth paste. Keep stirring and slowly pour in the milk.
  • Add Cajun seasoning, sour cream, and half cup Cheddar cheese. Keep stirring.
  • Drain the macaroni and stir into the mixture.
  • Add the shrimp and mix well.
  • Finally, pour the mixture into a gratin baking dish. Add two tablespoons of cheese. You may also choose to top it with two cups of panko breadcrumbs to make the pasta extra crunchy.
  • Bake the mixture in the oven for up to 20 minutes, or until the mac ‘n’ cheese is golden and brown. This simple recipe can be prepared in around 45 minutes. Enjoy!
