Steamers is a restaurant located on Chincoteague Island off of Virginia. It is a large, family friendly restaurant loved by the locals and vacationers alike. Steamers is best known for their all-you-can-eat seafood menu, featuring local steamed blue crabs, Maryland steamed red crabs, snow crabs, shrimp and nearby harvested hard-shelled clams and oysters. That is one heavenly and vast all-you-can-eat menu for seafood lovers! I was delighted to say the very least.
I decided to try an already prepared platter. So, I ordered the Chincoteague Clam Bake, and I was not disappointed! You can see it pictured here. I snapped a photo within seconds of it being delivered in front of me. I have had many shellfish platters served to me over the last couple of decades. While numerous typically look great, this one was a particularly special feast for the eyes.
My Chincoteague Clam Bake included freshly steamed shrimp, 2 snow crab clusters and a net filled with steamed clams and oysters. It also came with steamed corn on the cob, russet potatoes, a fresh garden salad and all the tools needed to dive right in. The clams and oysters were firm. The shrimp was perfectly seasoned lightly with Old Bay seasoning, a big tasty reminder that you are in the South, and the corn popped right off the cob.
Steamers is located on Maddox Avenue. The island is small. Therefore, Steamers is very easy to find. If you take a walk or drive through town, you will happen upon it quickly from any point.
I chose the Clam Bake menu item, but know that there are several seafood platter entrees that include sea scallops, local small crabs and different combinations of all the seafood offered. Almost all items can be broiled, blackened or fried.
If you are in a party with someone who does not prefer seafood, Steamer’s also has great chicken and steak entrees as well as a list of burgers to choose from.
The service was great, and everything was deliciously superb at a friendly, fair price. My son even happily walked away with a complimentary Frisbee.
