The ‘Cheers’ Of South Philly
Award-Winning Pizzas & Seafood
No discussion of Southern Philly’s food scene is complete without mentioning Stogie Joe’s Tavern. Located in the heart of East Passyunk, the restaurant has been satisfying the taste buds of locals and visitors for eleven years and counting.
Owned and managed by the Leuzzi family, the restaurant opened its door in February 2009. The laid-back vibe is evident in the service as the staff treats you like family instead of a customer. That said, it may not be the best place for a quiet meal!
Famous for its pizza offerings (named the Best in Philly by Thrillist), the Tavern is also a haven for crab gravy lovers. Crab sauce is available on the menu throughout the year, and considering COVID-19 guidelines, you can also order takeout by the pint.
What makes Stogie Joe’s crab gravy so tempting is the personal touch by Kristian Leuzzi (chef and owner). Kristian simmers the gravy for hours on end, pushing mirepoix through a tamis sieve, finished with butter and fresh tomato sauce, served with fresh blue crabs.
You should also try the house salads and sandwiches. The restaurant also has excellent beer and wine menus.
Dubbed as the ‘Cheers’ of South Philadelphia, Stogie Joe’s has built a reputation for quality cuisine at reasonable prices.
