Three Places to Visit in Stonington, Connecticut

Nestled somewhere deep in the state of Connecticut lies Stonington, a small town of about 20,000 inhabitants.

Despite its small size, Stonington has a particular role played in the history of the United States. It had twice been the target of two bombardments by the British Navy. In the second bombing, for instance, the British Navy subjected the town to three days of shelling in the hopes of breaking the will of the inhabitants.

However, Stonington’s residents held fast. Amidst heavy casualties, the British Navy withdrew without having taken the town.

If you’re going to spend a holiday in the quaint and sleepy little town of Stonington, you might want to check out a few destinations.

One of these is the Stonington Vineyard, with its various vintage stock. Take the time to savor the taste of some of the finest wines in the US in style and comfort; the Vineyard has comfortable outdoor couches made precisely for that purpose.

After tasting some wine, drive over to the Old Lighthouse Museum. Built in the middle of the 1800s, it commands stunning panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. In fact, the harbor in which it is located in the state’s only seaport that straddles the Atlantic.

The Museum retains most of its 19th-century masonry, particularly its stone walls. This is an excellent example of history in the state of Connecticut
