Friendly City By the Sea

Wonderful to Visit and Experience

Swansboro NC

Swansboro calls itself the Friendly City by the Sea…and it fits. It is a tiny little city, more like a village with small homes along narrow streets with a marina at one end and basically the highway at the other. It would be easy to miss this sweet city driving along highway 24, but it is worth a stopover. There is water on either side of Swansboro – Hampton Bay on one side and Queen Creek/Parrot Swamp on the other.

I love going there – eating at Yanamamas – it is such a cool place. The food is delicious, the people are super friendly. It is one of those places where people at other tables talk with one another…casual, friendly and very fun. A big chunk of the fun is the memorabilia plastered on nearly every surface. They have a shop right next door – creative and clever – a good place to get a very unique keepsake.

If you want to eat at Yana’s, you have to go early, they close in the early afternoon!

Walk along the streets, take a boat-ride, eat a good meal and generally take a step away from hustle and bustle of everyday life. Swansboro is a gorgeous waterfront community with the pace of peace. People there know how to stop and say hello – and really do. They don’t pass by with a split-second wave, rather, they stop and tell you a little about what is going on in their life, their thoughts on the latest happenings in the area and more. Then they will ask you about your life. Truly old-school.

Don’t get me wrong, Swansboro has a lot to offer – there is Harrika’s Brew Haus and other local eateries. There are some very cute shops with unique gift ideas for everyone from babies to seniors at price points from thrift store to very high end.

Looking forward to my next trip there…
