Be Comfortable and Enjoy These Delights!
Maryland residents claim to have the best crab cakes ever in this neck of the woods, USA. However, the crab cakes I am discovering on Chincoteague Island, located off of the coast of Virginia, are absolutely some of the best I have ever had. Those may be fighting words to Marylanders or any other region claiming to have the best crab cakes. However, I have been here for a few days now, and I have thoroughly enjoyed the three I have had so far. That is saying a lot, since I typically opt for broiled shellfish. They are so good that I just keep ordering crab cakes. A great place to sit comfortably and enjoy one of these superb delights is at the appropriately named Crab Shack.
The Crab Shack is a family-friendly restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, and their crab cakes are all freshly prepared daily using blue crab meat from the morning’s harvest. There is zero disappointing filler, and they are large and thick! I ordered the crab cake sandwich in southern-style to honor a long tradition, and it was completely deliciously filling. Not only was it delicious and filling, it cost the exact same as the awesome burger my young son ordered. Pricing is fantastic. Next to the crab cakes on the menu, you will not see any reference to that too-scared-to-even-ask “market value.”
The Crab Shack is located on Maddox Avenue. The Island is small. You cannot miss it even if you tried. The exterior of the building is painted blue with other pastel colored accents. It has an overall friendly, comfortable and inviting appearance.
While The Crab Shack specializes in the local crab delicacies, they also have a diverse menu of other items to satisfy anyone’s tastes. There are southern-style prepared pork, chicken and okra dishes, and, of course, all the fresh steamed blue crabs you can bang away on until your heart’s content.
