Sea robin or gurnard belong to the Triglidae family, a species known for dwelling at the bottom of the ocean. They are found in warm and temperate seas and feed on bottom-dwelling fish like crustaceans and mollusks.
Sea robin have a distinct appearance. They can be as long as 28-inches and they have two dorsal fins armored bony heads. Their fins occur in beautiful patterns naturally while their bodies are brightly colored. Sea robin of the American Atlantic are particular known for their sounds that they make with their swim bladders.
Some people avoid eating sea robin, but it is actually quite delicious and nutritious. And while sea robin can be eaten raw, there are several ways to cook it. Here is an easy sea robin recipe for you.
- Firstly you need to clean and gut it. As you fillet the fish, remove the skin and bones very carefully.
- The next step is to cute the fish in small chunks.
- Take a bowl and whisk two eggs in it. Set aside.
- Dip fish pieces in 1 cup flour to coat, and dip them in the egg bowl.
- Put 1 cup panko on a plate. Roll the coated fish pieces onto the panko.
- Place a heavy frying pan over medium heat. Heat oil (just enough to cover the bottom of the pan)
- Fry fish pieces in oil until golden brown.
Note: Do remember to wash your hands and any materials that you were using after handling raw fish.
Finally remove the fish pieces from the pan and place on a paper towel or similar surface to absorb oil. That’s about it! Enjoy your sea robin
