Triathlon – Myths Busted

Overcome your Triathlon Inhibitions

Discover The Misconceptions That Hinder Tri-Athletes

Doing a triathlon is perhaps the most physically demanding activity (technically a set of activities) that you can do. However, it has been noted that it is not the physicality of the activities that hinder people from joining, but a host of misconceptions that have risen regarding triathlons.

To begin with, many people assume that triathlons are for the super athletes and world-record holders like Michael Phelps or Lance Armstrong. But this is simply not true. Thousands of people do it every year, so why can’t you? The thing to remember is this: Everything seems impossible unless you try it.

You may say, ‘Yes, I can do it. But only after years of training’. Wrong again. The truth is that you can train for most sprint races within 3 months. Maybe the Ironman or the swim may take longer, but you can get in shape within 6 months if you are determined enough.

‘But I am not determined enough’, you might still argue. Well, you will be after you see people from all walks of life, all ages, and all body types training and competing around you. Triathlon is attracting more participants every day, and hardly any of these look like Michael Phelps. So don’t get too hard on yourself. You will get there.

Finally, many people think that money is a barrier to triathlons. Many think it an elite sport, not just for the physically strong but also those who can afford the equipment. Nothing could be further from the truth. Like any other sport in the world, you have the decently priced gear and the extravagant stuff. And more than often, the difference is only in the price tag.

You can do quite well with your bike in the garage. And even if you don’t have a bike, you can always rent one. The bottom line is that the only thing keeping you from entering a triathlon is your mindset. Overcome it, and you can work towards becoming a triathlete. Good luck.
