Welch Farm, Brock Bluffs

Rock Bluffs Maine

Blueberries, Ocean and Peace

Hidden away in the northern coast of Maine is a small town called Roque Bluffs, but it is far from ordinary. While it is a typical New England spot, it is home to Roque Bluffs State Park and a place called Welch Farm. Not only can you experience a pebble and sand beach which is unusual for Maine but you can have some of the world’s best blueberries!

Family owned and operated for five generations, Welch Farm was started by Frank and Mary Welch who moved to the spot on their wedding day in 1912. A chimney fire destroyed the homestead so Frank took it upon himself to build the family home, still standing today. The barn on premise was built in the early 1800’s, western styled and also still much a part of the farm today.

The farm is currently under the care of Wayne Hanscom, Frank and Mary’s grandson, and his daughter Lisa. He learned farming and blueberry production from his grandfather and when he took the helm of the family business at the young age of 16, he scaled back the cattle and sheep to focus on the blueberry business.

Lisa, joining her father in the last several years, helped save the farm by recognizing the draw of the 80 acres of blueberry fields and added guest rooms, farm tours and expanded the blueberry products offered. There are over 50 varieties of blueberries grown on Welch Farm, ample to pick and choose your favorites!

Roque Bluffs is a wondrous spot in Maine, combining all the wonderful sights and scents of salty ocean, tall pines and of course, blueberries! Maine is the essence of relaxation and the way life should be and Welch Farm embodies the motto. Come spend a night, a weekend or a whole week at Welch Farm and experience a true New England getaway.
