Why is Grouper So Good?

The Fish that Everyone Loves

Find out why here!

Amongst the many species of fish that seafood lovers enjoy is the
grouper
, which is a premium fish found in the western Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea. It is found most in the waters of Florida. It is available the year round, but is caught most during the fall and summer months.

The grouper fish is one of 400 species of the Serranidae, also known as the Sea Bass family. Out of the many types of grouper, the red and black grouper are found in the most quantity, whereas the Yellow edge, Scamp, and Snowy grouper are found very rarely.

The reason why grouper has is so good and popular with the seafood fanatics is its unique, mild taste and firm texture. There are two common types of grouper: red and black. The red is slightly sweeter and milder with a softer texture, whereas the black grouper is firmer, and tastes more like the bass fish, since both originate from the same fish family.

Seafood experts rate black grouper over red, as it has high oil content, making it easy to cook in a range of varieties. Also, the black grouper feeds on shellfish, which gives it a distinct lobster and shrimp flavor.

Since it is a premium fish, grouper dishes are pricey. But chances are you will get hooked onto this species of fish once you try it. Aside from entrée dishes, you can also enjoy ‘grouper sandwiches’, which are made from the finest grouper fish in Florida restaurants.

Prices of grouper entrée can range anywhere from $14 to $28, whereas grouper sandwiches go from $8 to $16. The prices may be high, but it’s worth savoring the taste of the rare grouper fish.
